What is your Taonga?

On the 7th of April, Mrs Taihia Brown and Siliga from Art Learning Space came to Room 7 to teach us art. We made a brainstorm about the meaning of Taonga. Taonga is something important or special to someone. After that, we drew symbols that represented ourselves or something that belongs to us. My symbol was a necklace that my grandpa made as a gift to my family before he died because it is something that my family has kept for a long, long time and it helps us to remember him in our hearts. Mrs Taihia Brown and Siliga soon had to leave but we were all so happy that we learnt something new.
Learning Intention: We are learning to understand the process of making an art piece.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I record the steps that we took to create symbols that represent us using Blabberize.

Rippa Rugby is exhausting!

On Friday the 8th of April, Room 7 went to the field to play Rippa Rugby as part of our kiwisport programme. My favourite game was the warm up game.

First we had to get into two teams and I was on the green team. When coach Hamish blew the whistle, Soane ran like the wind to get to the try line. I ran as fast as I could because I wanted to rip off his rippa tag so they couldn’t get a try, but unfortunately Soane ran really fast, so fast that I couldn’t catch up to him.

Next we practised our passing and we had to stand at the back of the cones. The person who was at the front of each team had to go to the opposite side. I was in the first line so I had to go to the opposite side. Then Punipuao, Akesa and Caleb came running towards us passing the ball sideways. When they have reached us, Punipuao passed the ball to Rhonda, then Rhonda, Rosary and I jogged while passing the ball to the other side.

We practised until coach Hamish thought it was time for a game of Rippa Rugby. I missed out a little bit of Rippa Rugby because MIss Chao told me to go with her back to class to get a hair tie because my hair tie had broke and my hair was flying everywhere. After we found a hair tie, I tied up my hair and ran out of the class because I didn’t want to miss out on the whole game. Surprisingly I was so fast that I came out just in time for the game. We played until the next class came out for their session. Before long, coach Hamish blew the whistle and stopped our game. Then he asked us to place the velcro belts and rippa tags near his bag. Everybody said, “Thank you!” and we ran back to class.

I felt exhausted when I came back to class because ran a lot during our session. My favourite part of the session was learning to pass the ball because I wanted to learn the correct way of passing the ball in Rippa Rugby.

Learning intention: We are learning to write a recount.
Success Criteria- I know I can do this when I describe my second Rippa Rugby session using paragraphs.
