Have you watch the movie 'The 5th wave'?

Learning Intention: We are learning to understand and use descriptive language in our recounts.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I use action verbs to describe the slumber party that I had with my cousin Naanise.

On Saturday, the 27th of August, my cousin Naanise came to my house for a slumber party. She was staying until Sunday.

First we went shopping for food. We bought some popcorn, chips, bottled water, lollies and fizzy drinks.

When we got home, my older sister sorted out some movies ready for us to watch. My mum pulled the table to the side to make more room for us to sleep. I grabbed blankets and pillows and laid them out for us to sleep on.

I felt very relaxed, comfortable and excited. My mum put all the food on the table so that it won't fall on the bed.

We watched Hotel Transylvania 1 and 2. We also watched the 5th Wave and the Jungle book.

My favourite movie was 5th Wave because it showed that the oldest of the family loved every single person in her family. Unfortunately her mom and dad both died and her younger brother was taken by the army to keep them safe so she tried to survive in the woods all on her own while the terrorists tried to take over the Earth.

We ate and watched, ate and watched until we had finished all the food. We also drank a lot of water and some fizzy drinks. We had a  great midnight feast!

We were still wide awake so my sister and I grabbed our phones and decided to make Musical.lys on my sister's page. I made 3 with my cousin Naanise and my sister made 4. Then I turned off the light and continued to watch more movies. After a while we felt sleepy so  we brushed our teeth then got under our warm and fluffy blankets. My cousin and I slept at eleven thirty and my sister slept at ten thirty. However when my mum put more layers on us  (because we were cold), we all woke up. We said goodnight to my mum and she kissed us all and said, "sleep well."

Just after midnight, Naanise and I woke up to watch more videos while the others were already sleeping. Before sunrise, Naanise and I finally decided to get some sleep so we would have energy for the Sunday activities.

My favourite part was the cousins' bonding- the slumber party where we had movie marathon and having a midnight feast instead of running around the house like little children.

I hope my golf club won't fall apart during my presentation next week!

Learning Intention: We are learning to follow the language feature of a recount.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I group my ideas in order using sequencing words about our Thursday art session.

On Thursday the 18th of August, Salome came back into our class to help us to continue our art work. First Salome asked us how we were progressing with our art pieces. I was nowhere near finishing my art work, so I rushed around collecting the materials that I needed to finish off my golf club.

Meanwhile, I stacked some cups and taped them together. The tape wasn't strong enough to hold the cups together so I went to the glueing station. My classmate Justice told me that Salome was too busy to glue our items for us so  we had to do it ourselves. I told myself to be careful because the glue is very hot. Then I glued the bottom of the golf club to my golf club.

After a while, I showed Miss Chao my golf club and tested it out. The cups on my golf club fell apart so I went to the glueing station to glue them together again. Soon, Punipuao asked me if I needed help and I said yes and punipuao helped me glue all the cups together. Then Salome asked me to test my sport equipment. Salome Said to me that I am very creative and she told me to add some colours. When I had just limy equipment up onto the painting table, Salome called out that it was time to pack up.

We all rushed around the classroom, trying to pick things up and put them back in the right place. I cleaned the tables and tried to rub off the graffiti that was under the table. Everyone helped but we didn't finish in time because the classroom was very messy. We all said karakia together and said thank you to Salome.

Finally, we ran out of the classroom to go and line up outside Room 4 and 5 with our bags.

My favourite part was when Punipuao helped me to glue all my cups together to make my golf club because I was falling behind. I can't wait for the presentation next week and I hope my golf club won't fall apart during the presentation.

Mmm! Barbecued patties are so delicious!

On the 20th of August, my family decided to have a barbecue at my grandpa's house. We went there in the car and I felt really excited because I couldn't wait to see all my relatives.

When we arrived at my grandpa’s house, we started cooking for the whanau. We made potato salad and vegetable salad. I had to peel the fresh potatoes with my mum and my aunt. It was a lot of fun because I love to cook.

Next, my mum and I had to wait for the food to cook. While we were waiting for the food to cook, we played with a deck of cards to fill in the time. My mum and I played speed and it was really fun. The aim of the game is to get rid of all your cards and once you get rid of all your cards you have to say, “Speed!” It was really hard to teach my mum the rules of the game.

After a while my brother, cousins  and I went outside to play with the red and white rugby ball. We played touch and it was so much fun. My brother was so hard to compete against because he has been playing rugby at his rugby club for 3 years.

Then it was time to eat the barbeque that my uncle had prepared. The food was delicious. We had different kinds of foods such as chicken, sausage, patties, potato salad, potato chips and vegetable salad. We also had some sour cream and onion as a dip for the potato chips.  It was delightful.

When we finished eating, the adults had a meeting which meant that we had to keep quiet. We played an obstacle race and we tried really hard not to scream like a rooster. When the sun went down, my sister and I looked through a word find book because I love doing word finds. We went through really hard word finds and kept on skipping the words that we couldn't work out. We had a competition to see who would finish their word find first and my sister won.

My family was sitting in front of the television waiting for our favourite family movie that was based in New Zealand called Born To Dance to be broadcast. It was 12.00 am when the movie started and everyone was quiet. When the movie ended, everyone was tired so we said a little family prayer to our Father above.

Finally it was time to go home because it was really late. I was exhausted and my belly was full of food.

I had so much fun at my aunt's house with my family. My favourite part was eating the food because I love having barbecued food.

I hope my baby cousin gets better soon!

Learning Intention: We are learning to understand and use descriptive language in our recounts.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I use action verbs to describe my weekend.

On Friday the 12th of August my mum, brother, sister and I went to Middlemore Hospital to visit my newborn baby cousin who was ill. We drove around for a little while and then my mum finally found a parking and it was right next to the front entrance.

I was so excited to see my cousin and her mum. When we finally found the ward that she was in, I kissed my aunty and the baby. I was so shocked to see four tubes around her. We stayed there for 3 hours. We talked, laughed and told jokes. My mum was happy to see my aunty smiling after all the stress that she has been through.

After a while, everybody left the ward to go to the family room so we could spend some time with the baby.  Eti and I were first and we read a children's picture book and sang a lullaby to her. After everyone had a turn, we all had to leave because the visiting hour was up. We kissed the baby and aunty. My aunty's children were so sad because they didn't want to leave their little baby sister at the hospital.

Afterwards, we all went home to get some sleep because my mum and my aunty wanted us to go to the hospital again the next morning.

On Saturday the 13th of August, my aunty called my mum and she was panicking because the baby's condition had worsened and her heart beat had gone down to 40. Straight away my mum said that we are on our way but my aunty said that they were in the emergency room and that nobody could visit until they finish connecting the machine to the baby.

My aunty was so scared because she didn't want to lose the baby. My mum and I did some housework because we were all worried about our baby cousin/niece so we tried to keep ourselves busy. Afterwards, my aunty's son Tevita face timed my dad to show us the baby. Then the nurse came and said that the baby might not make it because she has two viruses and pneumonia. Everyone was so shocked so my family rushed to the hospital to see the baby again. We all hugged my aunty because she was crying. Then we all sat around the baby and prayed for her.  At the same time, we all sang a family song that we would always sing to the baby when she cries.

Eventually, the nurse came and said that we could all go home including my aunty because they were taking the baby into intensive care and the nurse would text my mum and my aunty to keep them updated everyday.

Afterwards, we all went home still worried about my baby cousin. After 20 minutes we finally arrived at our house. My mum kissed us all and said that the nurse will take care of my cousin and tucked us into bed so we could get some sleep after a long day.

My favourite part of the week was when we all gave my aunty a big hug because she needed it after all the stress that she has been through. I hope my baby cousin would come home soon. I feel so impatient because I can't wait for the updated.

Wow! I made a golf tee in just five seconds!

On Thursday the 11th of August, Salome came back to our class so we could continue with exploring our Olympic sport. My sport was Golf. I wanted to continue working on my golf club and my golf ball.

First Salome told us what we needed to do. When she said go, we all ran to collect our materials and the creations that we have already made from the last two sessions. I went up straight away and grabbed the materials that I needed. I grabbed 4 pieces of paper and scrunched them all up into one ball. Then I grabbed some tape and wrapped it all around the paper ball.

After a while, I went to the painting station and painted the whole paper ball white. When I finished, I placed a paper towel under it and placed it on the bottom of the window frame so the sun can shine down on it to help it dry faster. After that, I went to help my friends to paint their sports equipment.

I tried to make a golf club but Salome said that we only had five more seconds left, so I grabbed a skewer and a mini plastic cup and glued the bottom of the skewer (not the pointy end) to the middle of the mini plastic cup from the bottom.
Eventually, Salome called out pack up time, so we rushed around the classroom trying to get the classroom clean as fast as we could. We were as fast as a cheetah and soon our classroom was spotless.

My favourite part was when I made a tee in just five seconds because I didn't think I would be able to. Today was fun and I hope I will be able to finish making my golf club in the next session before our presentation.

Yippee Yippee! It's my birth week!

Learning Intention: We are learning to understand and use descriptive language in our recounts.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I use action verbs to describe my birthday.
Image result for happy birthday
The 1st of August was my birth week, I call it birth week because it is the week that I was born and my family celebrates with me.

On Friday the 5th of August, my family went to Broncos steak house for my birthday dinner. We checked in and got our seats. Lasike and I were under 13, so we got a children's menu and on the other side were activities for us to complete with crayons. If we completed the activities, we can get a lollipop from the counter.

Lasike and I ordered mini hotdogs with fries, my mum ordered surfin turfin, my dad ordered salmon salad with steak and my sister ordered the biggest steak burger in the restaurant. it was so big that my sister couldn't finish it so Lasike and I helped her out because we weren't full from the food we had. Lasike and I also had pink panthers as our drinks, my parents had coffee and my sister had an ice chocolate.  After a while, we ate dessert. Lasike and I ordered ice cream sundaes with melted chocolate sizzling all over it.  My sister had a chocolate shake and my parents had a cheese cake. Then my mum told us to wait for our stomach to digest before we go. Afterwards, my mum paid the check and Lasike and I received our lollipops.

On Saturday the 6th of August, my mum went to have coffee with my aunty but she said I couldn't go with her because it was raining. When my mum came back, she bought me a bucket of donuts with chocolate all over it. I didn't want to be selfish so I shared with my brother and my sister. My mum only came home for a little while to drop the donuts off and then she went out again to the Warehouse with my aunty.

She came back at six on the dot, and surprised me with four onesies for my birthday present.  My mum bought me a panda, pikachu, koala and a tweety bird. My parents each had a zebra and a bunny onesie. I went straight upstairs and changed into my tweety bird onesie and laid down in front of the television watching the olympics. It was so warm that I didn't need a blanket. I slept with my tweety bird onesie because it was so cozy.

The next day was Sunday the 7th, it was my birthday! My mum woke me up at six because my grandma was on the phone with my cousins in Tonga singing happy birthday to me. Then I went upstairs to change for church. I immediately went to my bathroom to brush my teeth and take a shower after I have changed into my church clothes. Meanwhile my mum was laying out my birthday puletaha with a badge that had #BirthdayGirl on my bed. Soon after I changed into my clothes and put on my special heels. My mum tied a Kie Kie around my puletaha. My mum brushed out my hair and added a bow to my hair.

After everyone was ready we went to church. My aunty and uncle were already there. Father blessed me and the church sang happy birthday to me. After church, my aunty gave me $100, I said thank you and gave her a big hug. My dad invited my aunty, uncle and my cousin Ladele to my birthday breakfast at Ruby Red. We went there because it is my favourite cafe and because their pancakes are really delicious. I had pancakes with bananas and cream with a cup of hot chocolate.

When we were all full, my aunty and uncle went home and so did we. My mum called my aunty Seilala to see if we could go out for lunch because it was her birthday the day before mine. They said that they are free so my mum told my sister and I to hop into the car. My mum said to use my birthday money for the lunch and the $50 dollars that my sister had given me was for us when we go out.

We had lunch at Bake Heavens cafe, my sister and I had chicken nugget with fries, my mum had pasta, my aunty had a steak meal and my other aunty had a steak salad. After we ate, my mum gave me half of my birthday money so my sister and I could go out to the shops because my sister wanted to buy me a birthday present. First we went to a huge store to buy my sister some makeup and my dog some toys to play with. Then we went to Dress Smart for some window shopping. Afterwards, my sister and I decided to go back to my aunty's apartment because our feet were hurting from walking in heels.

On our way to the apartment, we came across a store where they sold branded products for only two dollars each. My sister bought herself some playing cards and told me to choose three things in the store for myself. I got a nature mandala colouring book, some colouring pencils and a pink wallet to for placing all my lunch money in. My sister walked around looking for some dog toys, all of a sudden my sister tripped. The man at the front counter was laughing and I was rolling on the ground laughing as well.

When we went to the cashier, the man asked if my sister's ankle was hurting because of her little fall. My sister started laughing and said that she is ok. After we paid our things, we walked to my aunty's apartment. We played snap and last card. It was so funny because my aunty joined in with us as well.

Eventually my mum said that it was time to go home, so we said goodbye to my aunties. My aunty walked us down to the carpark because she was the owner of the apartment. She opened the door with her ID badge and walked us out. Then she gave me a bag full of lollies and thanked me for shouting them lunch. I said, "You're welcome." I buckled up my seatbelt and said goodbye again. Then my mum drove off. It took us 10 minutes to get home because my aunty's apartment was not very far away from our house.

When we got home, my dad said to me that it was time to go and visit my aunty Seini because she has a surprise for me. When we arrived, my aunty took me to a shop and told me to wait there. I sat down while my aunty went to the counter. My mum knew what was going to happen but she kept quiet. My aunty came out with a birthday cake. It was a red velvet cake and that was my favourite. Then we went to a different destination and my whole family was there. They were holding a box covered with wrapping paper. I unwrapped the wrapping paper and saw a white box, I opened it and saw an Ipad pro. I gave everyone a hug and said thank you to them.

After a while, my mum decided to go to Mission Bay to eat the cake. Soon my dad said, "We can go for a swim!" However I said that I don't have a swimming suit and  my brother ran to the car and brought out a brand new swimming suit for me. Then we all ran into our cars and drove off to the beach. We swam and swam until my aunty called out cake time. My family sang happy birthday to me. Then my uncle yelled out Cake time again! Then we all grabbed a piece of cake and ate it. After we ate, we went for another swim. Later on we all went to take a shower and get changed into our dry clothes in the changing room.

When we got back, my mum told us to hop into the van because it was time to go home. We drove back home and ate the rest of the cake. After that, my mum told us to brush our teeth and change into our pajamas. My mum tucked us in and kissed us goodnight. As soon as my mum left our room, I fell asleep.

My favourite part was when my family surprised me with my Ipad because I had been wanting an Ipad for the last couple of years. It was a fun day and I hope my 11th birthday will be as great as this one.
