Do you want to hear about our exciting trip to Bunnings?

On Wednesday the 9th of August, Room 7 from Saint Patrick's School travelled in 5 cars to Bunnings Warehouse at Mount Wellington.

At 10:20 am, we strolled to the school reception. After a while Miss Chao divided us into small groups of 4 so we can travel to Bunnings. Miss Chao's dad took my friends and I to Bunnings. Soon we were introduced to our workshop teacher Anthony. We line up in two lines from the order of shortest to the tallest. After a little while, we walked in a line to collect our aprons. Then Anthony handed us the garden markers and then he divided us into 3 groups and told us to go to a table. I was put at the far table with my cousins. We took turns to get 5 plates of different coloured paint for us all to use; red, yellow, blue, green and white, After we were all organised, Anthony showed us how to paing tinly on our pieces of wood. This was important because if the layer of paint was too thick, it might bubble up. After a while, I painted some green grass with a red background. The vegetable that I was asked to paint was Thyme. After about 30 minutes, I finally finished my first coat so I went to wait in line for my turn to use the heat gun. Soon after that, Anthony called for our attention and so i left my garden marker on the table while we went for a small tour around the building.

While wandering around the building, Anthony showed us 3 different ways that Bunnings Warehouse is being sustainable. The first way that Bunnings was being sustainable is using LED lights for their lighting. Another way of being sustainable is that they use rainwater to water their plants.  There is a big green tank that is sitting outside the building. Since it was raining the tank was open so it could accumulate the rainwater to water the plants. Anthony led us to the most serious part of the building. He commanded us to stick together and pay attention. After that, we were led to the back of the building where he showed us a couple machines. There was a woman throwing cardboard materials into a rectangular yellow machine. Anthony said that the machine squashes all the cardboards to minimise the space that it takes up..

After our tour around the building, we strolled back to our little workshop. Finally, I painted the word 'Thyme' on my marker using blue paint. I also decided to add some yellow paint splatters to make it different. It took me a very long time to get the painting on my marker perfect because I was using a thick brush.Soon it was time to leave it to dry so I went to line up again for the heat gun.. While i was waiting for the pain on my marker to dry, I walked around each table with my cousin collecting all the paint brushes, dipping them in water and and drying them using a dry rag. Then we wiped the tables and collected all the plates of paint and gathered them all on the table.

After a little while, Ms Bullôt called for our attention so we can have a small reflection with Anthony. Straight after that, we walked quickly outside and I hopped into Mrs Folden's car to go back to school.

I had a very enjoyable time at the Bunnings Warehouse in Mount Wellington. My favourite part was when we had a little tour around the building because I got to view the behind the scenes of the store and how the store works.
