Have you watch the movie 'The 5th wave'?

Learning Intention: We are learning to understand and use descriptive language in our recounts.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I use action verbs to describe the slumber party that I had with my cousin Naanise.

On Saturday, the 27th of August, my cousin Naanise came to my house for a slumber party. She was staying until Sunday.

First we went shopping for food. We bought some popcorn, chips, bottled water, lollies and fizzy drinks.

When we got home, my older sister sorted out some movies ready for us to watch. My mum pulled the table to the side to make more room for us to sleep. I grabbed blankets and pillows and laid them out for us to sleep on.

I felt very relaxed, comfortable and excited. My mum put all the food on the table so that it won't fall on the bed.

We watched Hotel Transylvania 1 and 2. We also watched the 5th Wave and the Jungle book.

My favourite movie was 5th Wave because it showed that the oldest of the family loved every single person in her family. Unfortunately her mom and dad both died and her younger brother was taken by the army to keep them safe so she tried to survive in the woods all on her own while the terrorists tried to take over the Earth.

We ate and watched, ate and watched until we had finished all the food. We also drank a lot of water and some fizzy drinks. We had a  great midnight feast!

We were still wide awake so my sister and I grabbed our phones and decided to make Musical.lys on my sister's page. I made 3 with my cousin Naanise and my sister made 4. Then I turned off the light and continued to watch more movies. After a while we felt sleepy so  we brushed our teeth then got under our warm and fluffy blankets. My cousin and I slept at eleven thirty and my sister slept at ten thirty. However when my mum put more layers on us  (because we were cold), we all woke up. We said goodnight to my mum and she kissed us all and said, "sleep well."

Just after midnight, Naanise and I woke up to watch more videos while the others were already sleeping. Before sunrise, Naanise and I finally decided to get some sleep so we would have energy for the Sunday activities.

My favourite part was the cousins' bonding- the slumber party where we had movie marathon and having a midnight feast instead of running around the house like little children.

I hope my golf club won't fall apart during my presentation next week!

Learning Intention: We are learning to follow the language feature of a recount.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I group my ideas in order using sequencing words about our Thursday art session.

On Thursday the 18th of August, Salome came back into our class to help us to continue our art work. First Salome asked us how we were progressing with our art pieces. I was nowhere near finishing my art work, so I rushed around collecting the materials that I needed to finish off my golf club.

Meanwhile, I stacked some cups and taped them together. The tape wasn't strong enough to hold the cups together so I went to the glueing station. My classmate Justice told me that Salome was too busy to glue our items for us so  we had to do it ourselves. I told myself to be careful because the glue is very hot. Then I glued the bottom of the golf club to my golf club.

After a while, I showed Miss Chao my golf club and tested it out. The cups on my golf club fell apart so I went to the glueing station to glue them together again. Soon, Punipuao asked me if I needed help and I said yes and punipuao helped me glue all the cups together. Then Salome asked me to test my sport equipment. Salome Said to me that I am very creative and she told me to add some colours. When I had just limy equipment up onto the painting table, Salome called out that it was time to pack up.

We all rushed around the classroom, trying to pick things up and put them back in the right place. I cleaned the tables and tried to rub off the graffiti that was under the table. Everyone helped but we didn't finish in time because the classroom was very messy. We all said karakia together and said thank you to Salome.

Finally, we ran out of the classroom to go and line up outside Room 4 and 5 with our bags.

My favourite part was when Punipuao helped me to glue all my cups together to make my golf club because I was falling behind. I can't wait for the presentation next week and I hope my golf club won't fall apart during the presentation.

Mmm! Barbecued patties are so delicious!

On the 20th of August, my family decided to have a barbecue at my grandpa's house. We went there in the car and I felt really excited because I couldn't wait to see all my relatives.

When we arrived at my grandpa’s house, we started cooking for the whanau. We made potato salad and vegetable salad. I had to peel the fresh potatoes with my mum and my aunt. It was a lot of fun because I love to cook.

Next, my mum and I had to wait for the food to cook. While we were waiting for the food to cook, we played with a deck of cards to fill in the time. My mum and I played speed and it was really fun. The aim of the game is to get rid of all your cards and once you get rid of all your cards you have to say, “Speed!” It was really hard to teach my mum the rules of the game.

After a while my brother, cousins  and I went outside to play with the red and white rugby ball. We played touch and it was so much fun. My brother was so hard to compete against because he has been playing rugby at his rugby club for 3 years.

Then it was time to eat the barbeque that my uncle had prepared. The food was delicious. We had different kinds of foods such as chicken, sausage, patties, potato salad, potato chips and vegetable salad. We also had some sour cream and onion as a dip for the potato chips.  It was delightful.

When we finished eating, the adults had a meeting which meant that we had to keep quiet. We played an obstacle race and we tried really hard not to scream like a rooster. When the sun went down, my sister and I looked through a word find book because I love doing word finds. We went through really hard word finds and kept on skipping the words that we couldn't work out. We had a competition to see who would finish their word find first and my sister won.

My family was sitting in front of the television waiting for our favourite family movie that was based in New Zealand called Born To Dance to be broadcast. It was 12.00 am when the movie started and everyone was quiet. When the movie ended, everyone was tired so we said a little family prayer to our Father above.

Finally it was time to go home because it was really late. I was exhausted and my belly was full of food.

I had so much fun at my aunt's house with my family. My favourite part was eating the food because I love having barbecued food.
