Have you had your baptism yet?

On Saturday the 21st of May, my mum, my sister, my brother and I went to Sylvia park to buy a present for my baby cousin Michael Antonio Fale because he was getting baptised on Sunday.

When we arrived at the mall,  my sister had to cash out $150.00 from her bank account to spend for the present. Then we walked into the Warehouse  and went straight to the baby area. There were Elmo and a finding Dory teddy bears that could talk. Then we finally found the thing we thought his mum Emma would love. It was a My Pal Scout teddy bear. We got it because they can go online and type his name and his favourite things and the teddy bear will say his name.

We also went to the Shoe section to buy my brother and I proper winter school shoes. It was very hard to find my size because most of the shoes there were in small sizes. Eventually, I managed to get a pair of comfortable winter shoes that fit perfectly. Then we bought my sister a dress and a pair of shoes to wear to the baptism.  Her shoes were very pretty because they had  sparkly and glittery diamonds on the sides.

Meanwhile, my mum was feeling hungry so we went to the cashier, paid our things and ran to the food court to get some food. I wasn’t that hungry so my brother and I only had a milkshake with a swirly straw. Afterwards,  we walked to a gift shop to get a gift bag to put the toy inside. Finally, we went back home to get some rest ready for the big celebration the following day.

The next day was Sunday and it was the BIG day. I wore a white dress to church with a grey and black Cardigan. When we got there, we saw my baby cousin and his mum Emma. We kissed the baby but we didn’t Emma that we had a present for her baby because it was supposed to be a surprise. We sat together with them until it was time for the baptism. We heard Father Michael calling out his name, “MIchael Antonio Fale! I baptise you in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”.

Right after church I ran to the car with the keys and grabbed the present secretly. Then I saw my sister coming down with my cousin Nannise. I gave the present to Nannise and ran to hug Emma and to kiss her baby. Emma  was so surprised but very happy to receive a gift for her baby. She was so surprised that she cried and hugged me. I was so happy for her too!. Then I got to hold baby Michael for the first time. He was very light.

Since the party for baby Michael was at 1 o’clock, we went home first then came back to the Parish Hall for a feast. We were all excited and starving so I ran inside the hall as soon as we got there. There was so much delicious food that I couldn’t make up my mind what to pick. Finally I made up my mind and ate some sausages, roast pork,  mashed potatoes and Samoan banana chips. They were scrumptious! I waited for 20 minutes for my food to digest. Then I ran around and danced with Emma, baby Michael, Caylin, Sonasi, Sylis and Bubbles( Sonasi’s Little sister).

We danced until Emma gave her speech thanking everyone for coming and for being part of baby Michael baptism celebration.  She especially thanked my family and Caylin’s family for giving the baby special presents.  We danced again after Emma’s speech and we had a blast. It was a fantastic celebration for baby Michael’s Christening. My favourite part was giving the present to Emma that made her teary-eyed but it was tears of joy!

Learning Intention: We are learning to write a recount.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I follow the structure of a recount to write about my baby cousin's baptism: introduction, events, conclusion.
